Teaching “I feel so smart when you teach. I mean really smart.” Kindergarten student, Centennial Elementary As part of who we are: education is one of the three components of Gardenhouse. Nicole has been teaching curriculum with movement in schools K-12 for over ten years, company rehearsals are open for viewing and feedback discussion, and performances are often followed by a question and answer session. In addition Nicole regularly serves as guest artist for technique classes, theater work, and choreography. "When assessed as to what they had learned during a month's work of early American Social Studies, students remembered the pieces of information which had been explored through movement overriding all other areas researched in a traditional manner." Rebecca Fiscal, fourth grade teacher, Clairemont Elementary Working in the public schools, Nicole uses movement to teach academic coursework to ages kindergarten through 12 th grade. Amongst the many topics Nicole has taught are Latin, biology, social studies, English, math, and reading readiness. Students master material through self-exploration, cooperation, and the principles inherent to dance. “This will change the culture of your classroom for the rest of the year.” Dan Gray, biology teacher, Monument Mountain regional High School ( www.jacobspillow.org/community/curriculum-in-motion.asp ) Nicole has served as residency artist for Young Audience's Smart Start and MetLife Dance programs. She was a 2006-2007 guest-teaching artist for the Jacob's Pillow program Curriculum in Motion , and has served as board member and panelist for the Atlanta Partnership for Arts and Learning. "Weeks later, my students were still talking about the work they did in movement with Nicole. It both challenged and stimulated them- they loved it."
