Nicole Livieratos received her B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Arizona in 1981, studying there with John Wilson, Isa Berghson, Ellen Bromberg, Della Davidson, Gail Chodera, and Leann Hartley. As a performer Nicole has worked with choreographers Joanna Haigood, Gail Chodera, Ann Carlson, Mitchell Rose, and the Pearson Dance Company with whom she toured North Africa and throughout the United States . Nicole is founder and director of Gardenhouse Dance Company and her choreography has been commissioned by the High Museum of Art, Arts Festival of Atlanta, Atlanta Opera, Theatrical Outfit, First Light for NBC Television, Theater Emory, and Georgia Tech's Interactive Media Technology Center . Nicole has coordinated and conducted outreach residencies with teenage mothers and their children, youth at risk, emotionally disturbed adolescents, and senior citizens. Nicole has also taught extensively in public schools, using movement to teach curriculum subjects such as math, reading, science and social studies. Nicole has served as guest instructor at Spelman College , Emory University and at Jacob's Pillow as part of their Curriculum in Motion program.

Nicole has received grants from the King Baudouin Foundation, City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs, the Roundtable on Children, the Fulton County Arts Council, and Georgia Council for the Arts. In 1993 Nicole was the first choreographer accepted to the Hambidge Center , an artists' residency center, and in 1995 was awarded the prestigous Mayor's Fellowship in the Arts Award for Dance from the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs. Nicole has been singled out as “Best Choreographer” and her work as “Best Piece of the Year” by both the Atlanta Journal Constitution and Creative Loafing , and her piece Mowing received national attention in GardenDesign Magazine and Ripley's Believe It or Not . Her video dance Looking, made with director Doug Hall, received an Award of Distinction from the Communicator's Awards International Video Competition. Nicole has served on the board for Atlanta Partnership for Arts and Learning (APAL) and Nexus Contemporary Art Center and as a panelist for the Dekalb Council for the Arts, the Fulton County Arts Council, and the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs.
